What I Learned About the Sick   1 comment

The month of March begins with Ruth falling ill with throat infection plus fever.  Then Daniel caught the bug before passing it to Reuben.  Then I was down for a few days with food poisoning before my mom had a similar condition a few days later.  She stayed with us throughout the one week school holidays.

I learned one thing from this series of illness.  Each one has a different behavior & response to the illness & treatment.  Those who are compliant will get well the fastest while those who have a different mindset will suffer longer.

When comes to taking care of the sick children, one thing I learned is to maintain a cheerful countenance.  It makes them feel better & it’s also easier to get fluids &  medicine down without fights, though it’s more tricky when it comes to sponging when the fever gets high.

Taking care of mom was the most challenging as she is fickle-minded & not cooperative, in terms of medicine dosages & food choice.  A simple food poisoning usually takes about 2 days to settle but hers took almost 4 days to clear, ended up being dehydrated & weak, taking a longer time to recuperate.

One has to be teachable in order to move on in life with less obstacles.
